The electron spectrometers developed at HUN-REN ATOMKI over decades, as well as the experience gained in analytical measurements with them, formed the basis for the creation of a material science and analytical laboratory that meets the requirements of the age.

The laboratory has several equipment for thin-film production, elemental and chemical structure analysis, which enables complex chemical and physical analysis of samples. The laboratory is operated jointly by Atomki and the Department of Solid State Physics of the University of Debrecen.
